Senior Project Manager
Dartmouth-Hitchcock, Lebanon & Bedford, NH

The Senior Project Manager is in charge of handling work for assigned departmental or institutional projects using the principles of project management. This position assists departmental leaders as they identify and prioritize opportunities for projects and expands the capabilities of senior leadership, directors, managers, supervisors, and front line staff to project management principles and tools. This role is also expected to foster and support change within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with the project leader, sponsor, and key stakeholders to develop effective ongoing project related relationships and management processes.
  • Collaborates with the project leader, sponsor, and other project team members in defining and documenting the project charter.
  • Ensures the project objectives and scope are clearly articulated and shared with appropriate parties.
  • Leads the development of project plans, metrics, deliverables, detailed work plans, and specific tasks.
  • Manages project communications and relationships with stakeholders.
  • Coordinates activities of all project staff to meet deadlines.
  • Leads the team in identifying assumptions, constraints, and dependencies for the project.
  • Conducts project risk assessments and develops plans to monitor, minimize and mitigate project risks.
  • Maintains documentation and coordinates reporting related to the project budget and project change control system.
  • Manages project meetings and facilitates problem solving. Coordinates project meetings; this often includes scheduling and documenting the meetings.
  • Conducts project presentations; keeps leadership and the project team apprised of project progress through routine progress reports and project management plan updates.
  • Supports sustainability of achieved project benefits through documentation of a formal hand off process and control plan implementation.
  • Explains project management processes, tools, and techniques to the project team.
  • Trains, mentors, and assists Project Managers as needed.
  • Assists in the development and teaching of project management within the organization.
  • Engages in and promotes continuous learning.
  • Ensures adherence to industry and institutional standards of practice for project management.
  • Ensures adherence to institutional administrative policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least 5 years’ experience leading and/or managing medium to large scale projects using a standard methodology (PMBOK or similar).
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification, or Master’s Degree is preferred. 
  • Healthcare experience and/or experience in a highly regulated industry preferred

Additional Skills

Analytical problem solving skills with demonstrated skills to define, scope and analyze complex, cross-functional problems and work in partnership with operational owners and project leaders to develop and execute all facets of project work is vital. Excellent communication, organizational, decision-making and leadership skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential. Applicants must be skilled in the use of project management tools including MS SharePoint, Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
